Visit Hamsey & Cooksbridge
The historic parish of Hamsey is beautiful in its own right, and is interlaced with numerous, well-used footpaths and quaint winding lanes, which are continuous to and from the South Downs National Park, including via Offham Escarpment, Mount Harry, Black Cap and up to the South Downs Way.
These footpaths and lanes are very popular with walkers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts who visit from Lewes, neighbouring villages, and from further afield. The importance of this landscape and its value for outdoor recreation is recognised by and promoted by the National Park, who publicise several “South Downs Walks” that cross the proposed Hamsey site, and provide fascinating insights into the heritage of the area and tips on the best views to and from the National Park. You can find two of these (‘The Hamsey Heritage’ walk and the ‘Cooksbridge Rail to Ramble’ walk) here – please pay us a visit!
